It’s impossible to recover time. Time spent is time that is gone forever. You can stop doing a lot of things that you’re currently doing to make the most of the time you have, create something of value, inspire others and leave behind a body of work you are proud of.

You can get better control of your time but you can never recover it.

On the other hand is recovery time. In its most basic form, this is time you spend decompressing to get back on track. Recovery time, if done correctly, should make you feel truly rejuvenated. Mindlessly scrolling social media doesn’t constitute as recovery time. In fact, it will make you more stressed.

In some quarters, recovery time is frowned down upon. It’s a sign of strength to plow through injury, stress and disarray. Many injuries in sport occur because athletes don’t recover from injury fully before they take the field again for the fear of losing their place in the side. Not recovering sufficiently means you can never give your best because you aren’t feeling your best.

If you play a sport and you injure yourself, give recovery and rest its due diligence.

If you are coming off a grueling period at work, rest and recover before you get ready to do battle again.

If you are switching jobs and you have a lot of negativity to get out of your system, recover before you start afresh.

How to take better charge of our time and recover sufficiently is something we an all get better at.
