Does it hurt?

If you have been to an orthopedic when you have had a sprain or have been in some pain, they will flex that part of your body and ask you if it hurts. They will continue until you ask them to stop. The doctor won’t push you further to test how much pain you can withstand.

If it hurts, no point in pushing it further.

Physical pain is easy to identify. A stomach pain, a headache, a sprain, all of these are evident.

At the same time, there are many other habits and behaviors that hurt us and the people around us and we seldom pay heed to them.

Rudeness, apathy, indifference, politicking, anger, abuse, all of these hurt.

The restaurant with lackluster service is hurting its prospects of getting customers.

The organisation with a caustic culture and coteries is hurting the morale of employees.

The captain who berates and belittles players is hurting their morale.

Is this style of communicating, planning, functioning hurting?

Are your methods and practices hurting your chances instead of enabling them?

It may seem like common sense but if it hurts, stop doing it.
